Your Garage Door Cable Came Off,
What Should You Do?

When your garage door cable comes off on one side the best thing to do is absolutely nothing but contact your local IDA garage door service company & request a service call. Trying to open or close a garage door with one cable off will usually result in further damage to the door and or door tracks which will only add further to the repair cost.

When a garage door cable comes off on one side the door will go crooked in the opening & put abnormal pressure on the tracks. Once you attempt to move the door in either direction the added pressure may cause the track to bow outward and bend the track and/ or the track brackets. In many cases it ends up taking longer to fix the track and track brackets then it does to put the cable back on the drum.

When the door is crooked there is also the possibility that the garage door rollers may be literally pulled out of the tracks and causing the garage door to fall. Obviously this wouldn’t be a good thing if you or your car is under the door when it falls. Garage doors can weigh anywhere from one hundred or so pounds up to more than 500. Therefore a heavy falling door can cause severe damage and personal injury so only attempt to move the door with the greatest of care. and only when absolutely necessary for security reasons.

As you can see when your garage door cable comes off the best thing to do is nothing but request garage door repair because it should then be a simple fix!!!
