Garage Door Opener Transmitter
How to program a Chamberlain, Craftsman, or Lift-Master  with a “Smart” or learn button on the
motor head built-in receiver .

  All of these openers that have been manufactured within the last few years have a learn button on the receiver in place of the older code switches that were once used to program a remote control device to the garage door opener receiver. These include any of the Security+ (rolling code) or Billion Code transmitters that were manufactured by Chamberlain regardless of the brand name on the unit.

Programming Steps:

1) Locate the smart button on the motor head which is directly under the screw terminals where the push button and photo-cell wires connect to the unit and above the antenna wire. You may have to remove a lens or light cover to gain access to the learn button.

2) Push the smart button momentarily (Holding the smart button until the L.E.D. light beside the button goes out will erase all transmitter and keyless entries that are programmed into the unit) and verify the
L.E.D. light next to the button is lit solid.

3) Push the transmitter button that you want to use for that door within thirty seconds and before the
L.E.D. goes out. The L.E.D. will flash once and the transmitter will operate the door the next time the button is pushed.

4) If you have more than one door and a multi-button transmitter repeat steps 2-3 above for each door by using a different transmitter button for each unit. (Using the same button for more then one door at the same location will cause all the doors using that button to open and close at the same time and is not recommended.) The openers normally come with a single or a 3-button transmitter but 2-button and
4-button transmitters are also available as an option.

5) Repeat steps 2-3 above if you have more than one transmitter to program into your garage door opener.
